Origin, Steel & Blacksmith
This knife is a hand-forged Tosa uchihamono from Kochi Prefecture, a region known for its rugged, traditional blacksmithing heritage.
Unlike mass-produced Damascus, this blade features Ukashi Gin-zome (floating silver-dyed) Damascus, where the silver-toned layers are slightly raised above the blackened surface. Each blade is individually finished, giving subtle variation and depth to the pattern.
The core steel is Yasugi Gingami No.3 (Silver 3 / Ginsan) — one of Japan’s highest grade stainless steels. Developed by Hitachi, Ginsan combines:
Excellent edge retention
Clean sharpening response
Stainless corrosion resistance
Fine grain structure for precise slicing
It is widely respected among professional Japanese chefs who want carbon-like performance without carbon maintenance.
Performance Character
At 116 grams with a 2.0mm spine, this is a true laser.Thin behind the edge, Nimble in hand, Designed for precision slicing
This is not a heavy workhorse. It is a refined cutter built for control and finesse.
With proper whetstone maintenance, this steel sharpens beautifully and can be maintained for decades.
Handle & Finish
The handle pairs hornbeam wood with Dutch buffalo horn, finished with a burnished inlay for a subtle, traditional aesthetic.
The black dipped Damascus finish gives dramatic contrast while maintaining a restrained elegance. The floating silver pattern gives the blade dimensional depth when light moves across it.
A hand-forged Tosa Damascus gyuto crafted from Yasugi Gingami No.3, featuring traditional black oxide floating silver cladding and ultra-light laser geometry.
Professional-grade performance in a rust-resistant format, built by a regional blacksmithing tradition rather than a factory line.
